Tire Chains Recommended for 285/70-17 Tires
Question:
Hi. What are the best snow chains for on road/off road, tire size 285/70-17?

I have two recommendations, the best option will depend on the type of road surface you typically find yourself on.
The Titan V-Bar chains, part # TC3829 feature integrated V-bars that really bite into icy road surfaces. The Titan # TC3229S square link features square chain links that get good traction, but they aren't quite as good on very icy surfaces as the V-bar chains.
Both chains can be used on or off road. If you'll only use the chains in deep snow, ice or off road, the V-chains would work great but you'll get a pretty rough ride in thinner snowfalls. The square link would be a good all-around choice.
I'd also recommend adjusters like # TCMA2 to help keep the chains tight to the tire.
You don't mention the vehicle you'll use the chains with, you'll want to check the owner's manual to see if the vehicle manufacturer lists any special instructions or prohibitions regarding snow chain usage. Some vehicles have limited clearance between the inside of the wheel and suspension/braking components, and in that situation these chains wouldn't be a good choice.
I've linked to demonstration videos for the chains mentioned above.
