Building a Complete Trailer Axle with Wheels that Have a 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern

Question:

Im looking to build a trailer soon. I already have wheels and tires with a 5 on 5" bolt pattern. I still need an axle, suspension, hubs and drums, and brakes. What do you recommend?

We have what you need here!

To start with your axle, we have two choices depending on the length of axle you need. If you need a length of 89", then you can use the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles - 89" Long, part # T3584F-EZ-8974. This is an EZ-Lube axle with a capacity of 3500 pounds. If you need a length of 95", then use part # 7359765. I've linked to videos of both of these.

Both of these will work with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb E-Z Lube, part # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K. This 10" hub and drum has a 5 on 5" bolt pattern that will work with 13" - 15" wheels and is the only 5 on 5" hub and drum we have. I've linked to a video installation of these for your reference. I've linked to videos of these as well.

For your suspension, you will need some leaf springs. I recommend the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles, part # e54SR. They are 25-1/8" long and have an eye diameter of 9/16".

To mount the leaf springs, you will need a few components. First is the U-Bolt Kit, part # CE23002 for your application which will mount the springs to the axle. Second is the Hanger Kit, part # APS4 for your application which will mount the springs to the frame. I've linked to videos of both of these as well.

Finally for your brakes, you can use the electric brakes for 10" hubs. I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit, part # 23-468-469. These fit the 3500-pound axle and 14" - 15" wheels. They feature the left hand and right hand assemblies and easy installation. I've linked to a video installation of this kit for your reference.

If your current wheels don't fall within this range, then I recommend the Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 15" Silver Mod Wheel, part # AM32253DX. They match the 5 on 5" bolt pattern and have a load range of C. I've linked to a video review of this one, too.
