Will the Swagman XC Bike Rack Support a Townie Bike
Question:
Will this rack hold a townie bike?

The Swagman XC Bike Rack, # S64650, should be able to hold a townie bike, but to be absolutely certain that this bike rack will support your bike, we will want to take a few measurements on your bike.
First, this bike rack can support a wheel base up to 51-1/2 inches long. To find the wheel base on your bike, measure from the center of the front wheel axle to the center of the rear wheel axle. Next, you will want to find the width of your tires. The wheel loops on this rack can support wheel widths up to 3-1/2 inches.
Another thing to consider is that this bike rack can support bikes up to 35 lbs each.
The final factor to consider is the horizontal frame bar on your bike. Some of the townie bikes come with a dramatically curved frame and those bikes can be difficult to secure with the hooks on this bike rack. If your bike has a curved frame, I would recommend picking up the Bike Adapter Bar, # 64005. This will provide a horizontal top tube so the hooks can better secure the bike to the rack. I have attached a video demonstrating how to use this adapter.

Dear John,Wow, never dreamed that I would receive a personalized video and one which was so helpful. I attached my trailer hitch and my new swagman xc2 bike rack to my car. Now I plan to purchase a couple of townie bikes. As we live in northern Indiana all we have to do is hope for an early spring. Thanks much,Tom
