Brake Controller Installed in 2005 Ford F-250 Not Getting Power From Battery
Question:
Hi, I am trying to install a brake control module in a 2015 F350. I have all of the parts, but when I plug in the controller it does not have power. What besides the fuses can I check to figure out the problem. When I press the brake, I get power to the correct wire feeding the controller from the vehicle, but nothing else. No constant 12v power or electric brakes. I am using the plug and play wiring harness with the controller module. Thanks.

There's two things to check. Go to the fuse box under the hood, and take a look at fuse location # 22. If the fuse is missing, look at the slot where the fuse installs. If there are metal pins in there that make contact with the fuse when it's installed, all you'll need to do is install a 30A fuse, and the harness feeding the brake controller will be powered up and you'll be good to go.
If that fuse slot does NOT have the metal pins in it (which is sometimes found in XL Trim models) you'll need to run your own power wire to the battery as shown beginning at the 5:45 minute mark in the linked video. You'll need a length of # 10-1-1 10 gauge wire long enough to reach from the brake controller through the firewall into the engine compartment and across to the battery. You'll also need a 30A circuit breaker, part # PK54530. For hardware, you'll need a # 05732-2 butt connector, 2 # 44-5310A small ring terminals and one # 44-5356A large ring terminal. The video will walk you through the installation, step by step.
