Component Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2010 Ford Edge with a Motorhome

Question:

I purchased a used motorhome that came with a Falcon 2 tow bar Pic attached. There is a serial number 005623 on the inside of the arm and a ,I believe, a model number 252284-30 on the label. I intend to tow a 2010 Ford Edge yes, it can be towed 4 down. My questions: Is the tow bar missing parts? If it is, what am I missing? Do you have instructions for this? Do you have the correct base plate for my Ford Edge? How much money to get what I need? Any help is greatly appreciated. I need to get this set up and ready for a spring trip.

Flat towing your Edge will require the following components: a tow bar, a quick-disconnect bar, vehicle base plates, safety cables, a light wiring system and a supplemental braking system. I have included several helpful FAQ articles concerning flat towing and the components required.

The Falcon 2 Tow Bar is manufactured by RoadMaster in several versions. It appears from your photo that you have part # RM-520. Instructions for this part are provided. Your photo shows that the tow bar you have does still have its safety cables and possibly a wiring harness. I suggest you refer to the attached instructions to verify that you do have all parts. We cannot be certain from the photo but you should be able to determine this by using the instructions while you examine the actual tow bar. It is also recommended that you inspect the tow bar for signs of wear or damage from the previous owner. You will also need a quick-disconnect tow bar base assembly, part # 910021-00.

Base plates for your 2010 Ford Edge that are compatible with this tow bar are available, part # 4408-1.
These Roadmaster base plates require no welding and include all hardware. Please note that the installer
of the base plates may have to perform trimming of spoiler, air dam, grill or plastic fascia on this vehicle. The manufacturer does suggest this process is best left to an experienced/professional installer.

The required lighting system for flat towing can be either a permanent hard-wired system that taps into the wiring in your vehicle, or a removable plug-in magnetic type that requires no modifications to your Edge. One such product is the Custer Magnetic Towing Light Kit, 20 ft. Long Cord, part # RM-2120. This type is the simplest option. If you will tow the Edge frequently you may want to choose the hardwired type, such as the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154.

A supplemental braking system applies controlled braking to the towed vehicle whenever you apply the motor home brakes. One such system is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Tow Bar Braking System, part # RM-9400. This device is positioned inside the towed vehicle and connects to both its 12-volt battery for power and its braking system for signals as to when to apply the brakes. If desired you can add the matching Roadmaster Even Brake Monitor, part # RM-9410, which enables you to see the status of the supplementary braking system from the comfort of the motor home.
