Can I Flat Tow a 2020 Chevy Sonic LT with Automatic Transmission and What Parts Do I Need

Question:

I am thinking of buying a 2020 Sonic Sedan LT automatic for flat tow and buying your recommended components. This model with automatic transmission is flat towable right? I dont want to buy a new car specifically for flat tow and find out I made a $20k mistake.

From what I was able to find in the owner's manual for the 2020 Chevy Sonic LT, it does appear that this vehicle can be flat towed; there is a note that explains the following procedure for the models with an automatic transmission:

"When dinghy towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission, the vehicle should be run at the beginning of each day and at each RV fuel stop for about five minutes. This will ensure proper lubrication of transmission components"- As long as these procedures are followed you'll be able to flat tow your 2020 Sonic LT with an automatic transmission without any issues.

For a complete flat towing setup you'll need base plates, a compatible tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, supplemental braking and possibly a high/low adapter. I've gone ahead and linked the parts that we've recommended for use when flat towing the 2020 Chevy Sonic so that you can easily find them and not have to search through the site again!

Base Plate Kit - Blue Ox Base Plates # BX1703
Tow Bar - Blue Ox Alpha 2 # BX7380
Safety Cables - Roadmaster # RM-645
Tow Bar Wiring - Roadmaster Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes # RO94FR
Supplemental Braking System - Brake Buddy Class 3 # HM39494

I've also linked some installation instructions/review videos of these parts, as well as our selection of high/low adapters and our helpful article on how to correctly measure to find out if you need a high/low adapter and what measurement it should be.
