How Tight Will Master Lock Universal Trailer Coupler Lock # 379DAT Fit on 2-5/16 Inch Demco Coupler
Question:
How tightly should a trailer coupler lock fit? I have a Master Lock 3784DAT on a 2 5/16 Demco coupler, which Master Lock says is the right product, but its quite loose. When locked, theres about two inches of play side to side one inch per side and an inch top to bottom. Is the lock effective with this much play in it? Thanks for your help Master Lock wont answer the question.

The Master Lock Universal Trailer Coupler Lock, part # 379DAT, is designed to work on all three hitch ball sizes, 1-7/8 inch, 2-inch, and 2-5/16 inches. Since it fits all three sizes it will not be able to be very tight, but you will want to make sure to slide the body of the lock up against the coupler as far as possible when attaching the lock to the coupler.
As long as the lock cannot be removed after you lock it to the coupler it will work just fine in keeping somebody from connecting to your coupler and driving away with your trailer.
I am including a link to a video review of the coupler lock.
Another option for further peace of mind is if the coupler can be locked at the latch through a small hole, would be the lock like Master Lock Coupler Latch Lock, part # 2847DAT. This would prevent the latch for opening so the trailer cannot be removed from the ball. I have also included a link to a video review on the latch lock.
