Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Platform-Style Bike Rack for 2012 VW Golf
Question:
Hi, Do you sell a hitch that would work for a 2012 Volkswagen Golf with a Thule Helium Platform 2 bike rack? I was checking the fitting specifications on the bike rack but it was not clear. Can you please help? Thank you!

When one of the available hitches for your 2012 VW Golf is installed, the receiver will be located so that it's hitch pin hole sits about 6 to 7 inches forward of the furthest rearward part of the bumper. Because it's recessed under the bumper pretty far, unfortunately the shank of the Thule TH44VR Helium wouldn't be able slide into the receiver tube far enough for the hitch pin hole in the shank to line up with the hole in the receiver.
I do have a combination that would work for you. When the Draw-Tite # 24825 is installed, the receiver would sit so that it's recessed 6-1/2 inches behind the bumper. This is enough clearance to allow the Yakima HoldUp, part # Y02443 to install and to fold into the storage position. The hitch will be compatible with your Golf unless it's an R model.
The HoldUp can carry 2 bikes weighing up to 60 lbs apiece, It can carry bikes with tires up to 3 inches wide and weighs 49 lbs, just 6 more lbs than the Helium. The rack features locks to secure the rack to the vehicle and the bikes to the rack. The rack can tilt rearward with the bikes in place to allow easier access to the hatch or trunk. An optional add-on is available as part # Y02446 which would allow you to carry 4 bikes.
I've linked to an install video for the hitch and a product demonstration video for the Yakima HoldUp bike rack I recommended above.
