The inlet of the MB Sturgis propane regulator # 108220 is a 1/4 inch NPT fitting although I'm fairly sure I know why you think it seems to be a 1/2 inch.
When reaching out to our friends at MB Sturgis here is how they explain it. If you measure the inside diameter of the female opening you'll get 0.55 inches. NPT fittings like the regulator uses are sized to coincide with the inside diameter of Schedule 40 pipe. So if a 1/4 inch Schedule 40 pipe has a 1/4 inch inside diameter, the outside diameter would measure 0.54 inches. If you cut threads on the outside of a .54 inch outer diameter pipe you will need a female fitting that is slightly larger than 0.54 outside dimension to screw on to the male thread that is cut into the outside of the pipe.
