Wiring A Prodigy P3 Brake Controller To An Ignition Source On A 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris
Question:
I have installed the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on my 2016 Mercedes Metris. Just to confirm... there is NO on / off switch for this brake controller? I was told it does go into sleep mode after 15min? This true? Right now the brake controller is installed manually per instructions in Prodigy P3 box. I believe the factory connectors for inch factory tow package inch are in the passenger side cargo area / jack area. No sub-harness is available for the 2016 Metris. Also, If I were to want the Prodigy P3 to only come on when the key is on? Can this be done even tho I have my two automatic circuit breakers installed? Appreciate your time.

You are correct, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional Item # 90195 does go to sleep after 15 minutes once the vehicle is shut off. Keep in mind, if you shake the vehicle, open a door, etc. the brake controller will wake back up but it will not draw enough power to drain the battery. We have installed thousands of these brake controllers and have never had an issue with the battery. No, you do not want to connect the brake controller to an ignition source because it will overload the circuit. The brake controller acts as a circuit breaker for your brake pedal. A brake controller has 4 wires, black, red, white, blue. Black wire is power going to the brake controller, the white wire is the ground, when the brakes are applied the red wire send power from the black wire to the blue wire which apply the brakes on the trailer.
