Parts Needed to Wire Up 6-Way on 2001 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
My cousin is attempting to wire a 6 way round socket to his 2001 Toyota Tacoma, for his utility trailer that does not have brakes or aux power. Just tail, turn, and stop lights so those pins will not be used. He bought a socket and plug kit just a socket and plug and individual wires and we are now trying to wire it up to his trucks stock wiring using four wires to match his trailer wiring. We have gotten the turn signals and tail lights to work but the brake lights are the problem. The truck has separate brake, turn, and tail light wiring. We have spliced into the running light and left and right turn signal wires, but when splicing into the brake light wire, we get a feed back that causes his trucks four ways to come on and will blow the tail light fuse. Because standard four way trailer wiring uses the same circuit for the turn and brake lights, we need to splice the brake wire on the truck into both right and left turn signal wires on the connector for the trailer to have working brake lights. How would we get this to work without resorting to getting special wiring? My cousin is cheap and a hackerinch when it comes to working on his cars. So purchasing the proper wiring kit would not be one of his options. But he would not be opposed to redoing this over again several times and spending all the extra money required, just to get it to work. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind the hacker when you answer. Thanks.

Normally in a situation like this the best way to accomplish adding a 6-way round to a 2001 Toyota Tacoma is to first use a 4-way kit like part # C55379 to get the correct signals combined and then use an adapter like part # 37175 to convert it to a 6-way.
Since you have a 6-way ready to wire up best option would be to use the # C55379 to get the circuits combined like you are needing and then cutting off the 4-way of the kit and wiring the circuits to the 6-way.
