Can I Use Electric Brakes on my Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 2018 shore lander Boat trailer single axle 3500 pound capacity. The axle has tabs welded on it for surge disk brakes. But it currently does not have brakes. I was thinking Of adding electric drum brakes. Is that possible?

Expert Reply:

Yes it is very possible to add electric brakes like the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA which are compatible with a 4 bolt brake flange.

These will work with the etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K which have the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern which match most common boat trailer tires but do verify.

Adding the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector part # HS381-9000 and enough of the Jacketed 2 Wire part # 12-2-1 to go from where you mount this box back to the brakes and you will be set.
