Best Bike Rack for 2020 Subaru Ascent for Rear Cargo Area Access with Bikes Loaded
Question:
Im looking for a hitch bike rack for my 2020 Subaru Ascent - I need to be able to open the rear cargo door without having to unload the bikes. Id also like to be able to secure the bikes. Im carrying a mens, a womensfoot and 2 child bikes 20 and 16in - what do you you recd? Im was looking at Thule Hitching Post Pro vs the Thule Swing Away. I cant find the Hithcing post on the thule website - is it new? discontinued? Also, I see that it doesnt lock so how much would it be to add the locks to the Hitching Post rack vs. the increased price of the swinging rack?

For rear cargo area access on a vehicle there is no better option than the Thule Apex Swing XT part # TH9027XT that you referenced. Unlike other tilting or folding options it gives complete access without being overly difficult and also comes with locks for the bikes and for the rack to your hitch.
The Hitching Post goes by a few different names which would be why it's harder to find on Thule's site but it's been around for some time now.
If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
