Troubleshooting EZ Loadr Boat Trailer Brake Issues

Question:

When Im pulling my boat, a 22.5 using an EZ Loader dual axle trailer, when Im approaching a stop light or sign, as my truck is slowing down, the trailer will start bouncing back and forth a little, then get worse and worse, then it will lock the brakes up, then release, lock and release, and bounce. What is causing this? Thank you

It sounds like the fact your brakes are locking and releasing is what will cause the bounce and porpoising you are describing. It sounds to me like your surge brake actuator is sticking and then releasing and then doing so again and again as you slow down. This could be from a shock like the Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200 not working correctly, a wheel cylinder/brake caliper issue if that is only happening on one side, or a master cylinder issue if it is happening on both sides. I recommend starting with the shock and seeing if that solves the issue and definitely testing it in a safe location where you can do stopping and starting to ensure there isn't a specific speed element to the function issue.

If you let me know what coupler you have, I can see if we have replacement parts. If you want to completely replace the coupler, then you'd have all new components and definitely would isolate the issue if there still was one. For a tandem axle EZLoader with 22.5 foot boat, I recommend the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Drum Brakes - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-00 if you have drum brakes or # 099-175-20 if you have disc brakes.
