Best Malone Trailer For Making Hauling 4 Kayaks EASY!
Question:
Hello. We have been looking at different set-ups for kayak trailers, and I think we have a plan. But first, I just wanted to ask a question before it was too late. We are thinking of getting the Microsport Trailer with J-Style Kayak Carriers #MPG462G2 and including the Malone 2nd Tier Load Bar System #MPG474. It doesnt seem that there should be any incompatibility, but I wanted to check before ordering. Also, I want to make sure that I have chosen the correct trailer. We have four kayaks, sized 19.5 ft, 18 ft, and two at 12 ft. The specs say that the maximum length is 20 ft., so it seems that we should be okay. Thanks for your help.

That's a great plan! I am happy to help and my first suggestion would be to just stick with the MicroSport Trailer with J-Style Kayak Carriers # MPG462G2 just because it can already hold 4 kayaks. Piecing these trailers together I have found to be a little more work with not the best possible result.
If you guys are set on the two tier idea than I would highly recommend getting the Malone MegaSport 2 Tier Trailer for Heavy Boats - 2 Storage Containers # MPG550-TH for many different reasons.
One reason is I really like how structurally sound the MegaSport is, It will support the 2nd tier of the trailer very well even with heavier kayaks on it. Another reason is I really like using the bunk system when using a trailer just because they can adjust to meet the needs for all sorts of different kayak, canoes, etc. The bunk system is also A LOT sturdier in my opinion and luckily the MegaSport comes with two. You can grab two of the same J-Style Carriers # MPG117MD used on the MicroSport trailer you referenced in your question. I recommend grabbing two Bunk Kits # MPG561 for the 2nd Tier because the J-Style Carrier will cause potential clearance issues for storage and the bunks are MUCH more solid. The bunks also give you a lower center of gravity which will make hauling smoother.
The biggest reason why I like the MegaSport Trailer is the storage bins underneath. There is a dry bin and a wet bin. Weather I'm at the lake or the river I always have a soaked lifejacket, shoes and clothes. I hate putting them in the car with me and also do not like bringing them into the shed or house soaking wet. The smell isn't that pleasant especially if it was a long day. So I would use the wet storage bin for all those soiled items so they don't make a mess or smell up wherever I would usually store them and the dry bin for the essentials. I always take lunch for the day, water, bug spray and A LOT of sunscreen!
There is a lot of room in the two bins to fit everything you would need. Here are the dimensions.
Dry storage bin dimensions: 48" long x 18" tall x 16" wide
Wet storage bin dimensions: 48" long x 20" wide x 10" tall
A set up like this is going to be great for making setup quick, easy and have more adventures more often!
