Will Dexter Electric Brakes for 6,000 lb Axle Work With 7,500 lb Axles
Question:
The subject part number looks to be the replacement brakes I need for my 1978 Hercules equipment trailer. My trailer has three axles and GVWR of 21000 lbs. Based of that GVWR I figured I must have 7000 lb axles. These brake assemblies are rated for a 6000 lb axle. Can they still be used if I dont exceed 18000 lbs? The trailer weighs 3500 lbs and I plan on hauling my 6500 lb skidsteer on it.

The Dexter Electric Brake Kit for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange # 23-105-106-09 will work so long as your hub and drum is 12" diameter x 2" wide, you have a AL-KO/Hayes 4-bolt or standard 5-bolt brake flange and 14-1/2", 15" or 16" wheels. So long as you meet all those requirements you can use these brakes and be just fine.
To mount three of these assemblies you will also need three of the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Single Brake Assembly # BRKH12S.
I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well of the Dexter Electric Brake Kit for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange # 23-105-106-09.
