What Circuit on 1996 Ford Van for Charging Trailer Battery

Question:

I have an 1996 conversion van. years ago I thought the peope hooked up the charging wire from my van. They did not. I found a 4 wire bundle at my rear bumper with a hotwire that has 14.2 volts with the engine running. How can I hook that wire to my trailer battery to charge it up or maintain the charge on it? it looks like its run through a 40 amp fuse from a distribution box.

I am not totally sure what your van has currently in terms of trailer wiring but you can use the circuit you have found to charge the trailer battery as you tow it. Normally this circuit would connect to the 1:00 pin of a 7-way. If you have a 7-way already that's the only connection you'd need to make. If you have a 4-way now you'd need to convert it to a 7-way with the part # 37185 and connect that circuit to the black wire of the adapter.

If your trailer has a 4-way currently you'd need to upgrade it to a 7-way with the part # HS381-9000 as well.
