Brake Controller Install on 2012 Subaru Outback
Question:
I just purchased a 2012 Outback with the 3.6 liter engine and I want to fit it with a trailer brake controller. It currently has a 4 pin flat connector. The trailer brake wire is a single blue wire rear brakes share a common ground and common hot lead What do I need to incorporate the trailer brakes-an ETBC6, six pin connector for car and trailer, a controller please suggest one and what else? FYI, the trailer is a single axle, 14foot trailer which will carry a 900lb. car. Thank you

The Tekonsha Primus you mentioned should work very well for you and would be a good choice unless you are planning on towing a trailer with an electric over hydraulic braking system some time in the future. If this is the case, you might want to go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885.
Since you need to provide a connector for the trailer anyway, I would upgrade to the more common 7-way connector. This way you could tow the trailer with a different vehicle if need be.
To install the controller, you would need the # ETBC7 kit. The ETBC7 kit includes everything needed to install the controller, including the adapter to convert your existing trailer connector to a 7-way.
I will link you to installation instructions for the ETBC7, which will walk you through the install process.
For your trailer, I would recommend the # H20046 (8 foot length) or the # H20042 for a 3 foot length.
