Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2020 Airstream Basecamp X

Question:

Hey there. I’m looking for recommendations on a WDH. My tow vehicle is a 2018 Ford Raptor with Deaver HD leaf springs added supports extra 500 pounds. I have a topper that weighs 300 pounds or so. My travel trailer will be a 2020 airstream Basecamp X. I’ve read all kinds of things regarding which WDH is best or if I even need one. I am leaning toward getting one because the max tongue weight rating for my truck is 500 pounds without WDH and 800 with. The listed tongue weight of the airstream is 435 pounds, but I assume it’ll be higher when loaded up.

With the Airstream dry tongue weight of 435 lbs, you can be sure the loaded tongue weight will be slightly higher and then you also need to consider any cargo you put behind the rear axle of your truck as tongue weight for the weight distribution system as well.

I recommend using the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # RP66083 which is rated for total tongue weight between 400 and 800 lbs. It will give you the best sway control on the market and give you adjustability for the best ride. You will also need a hitch ball and I recommend # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 diameter ball.
