Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2008 Chevy Suburban LTZ 1500 Towing Coachmen Capri 29KS

Im looking at a 2005 Coachmen Capri 29KS travel trailer. The sales brochure says: Base wt= 4756 lbs, GVWR=6250 lbs and Hitch wt=530 lbs. Can this Suburban do it well and if so, which load distributing hitch would be best? My manual states I can pull max trailer weight of 7,000 lbs for my model. Also says I can go up to 1,000 lb trailer tongue weight with a WDH only 600 lbs with weight carrying hitch. Thanks!

A weight distribution system would be a good choice for you. We recommend using one whenever the weight of the trailer exceeds half of the vehicles towing capacity. You are almost there with the weight of your trailer so it would be recommended.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For what your trailer would be loaded the Straitline part # RP66084 would most likely be your best option. It has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs. If you don't plan to load much into your trailer the # RP66083 would be the better option as it has a range of 400-800 lbs.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
