Compatibility of Cargo Carrier with Class I Subaru OEM Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

Hi, I have 2020 Subaru Forrester with a Class I hitch. Manual says the towing capacity is 1500 lbs. and the tongue weight is 150 lbs. I am wondering what I can do with this setup. Specifically, if I were to use a hitch cargo carrier with a curved stem to raise the ground clearance would that configuration reduce the tongue weight capacity? Further, short of weighing every utility trailer load on a scale bathroom or other wise is there a way to know if the weight I wish to haul is safe? THANKS!!

Using a cargo carrier like you referenced will not reduce the tongue weight of your trailer hitch receiver. The carrier weight will count toward the total tongue weight however, so you will need to account for that. For instance the class I compatible cargo carrier # C18145 weighs 29 lbs.

We don't currently have any cargo carriers compatible with your class I hitch receiver that have the raised shank for greater ground clearance, but I've linked your options. The raised shank would not impact the tongue weight rating.
