Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation for 1999 BMW 3-Series
Question:
I have a 1999 BMW 323i and want to put a hitch on it for a small utility trailer. The part im looking at says 1 1/4 receiver and the trailer has a 1 7/8. Will this be a problem?

Expert Reply:
Curt offers two different hitches for the 1999 BMW 3-series. For the Sedan, use # C11174. If you have the convertible or the coupe, you'd use # C11177. For a ball mount, use # C45521 and a # PC2 hitch pin. For a trailer ball, use # A-80 for a 1-7/8 inch or # A-82 for a 2 inch ball. You'll also need a trailer wiring harness like part # C59496.
The 1-1/4 inch refers to the dimensions of the receiver tube that the ball mount inserts into. While the 1-7/8 inch dimension refers to the diameter of the trailer ball you'll need. I've linked to some installation videos and instructions.
