How to Tell if 7-Way on 2013 Nissan Xterra is Fully Working

Question:

I have read a lot of info regarding needing to switch the blue and the black wire in order to get 12 volt charging for my trailer batteries while in-tow. Do you know how I can determine if the trailer batteries are getting the 12 volt charging properly while its hooked up and driving? I already installed the Curt 56226 harness up to my 2013 Nissan Xterra . All brake lights, running lights, blinkers work great. I just want to know if the 12 volt lead is working properly and getting power to the trailer batteries.

The best way to tell that all of the functions on the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way Trailer Connector # C56226 are working correctly is to use a circuit tester # PTW2992 and check all of the pins. I haven't heard of having to switch the blue and gray wires being a huge issue for installing this on your 2013 Nissan Xterra, but you can quickly double check all of the functions using the method I mentioned above. I'm also adding a photo showing what the functions should be for each pin.

One other thing to note is that while your Xterra will provide 12V power to your batteries, it won't actually charge them. By just connecting the power wire you will be adding a maintenance (or trickle) charge. This means that it will prevent your batteries from draining, but it won't increase their charge. In order to do this you'll need to use a charger like the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D if you're wanting the batteries to charge while driving.

Attached are some videos for you to check out.
