Does the Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch Crank In and Out

Question:

I understand that this winch stops turning if I stop cranking. I just want to be sure that it cranks one way to lift and the opposite way to lower. Also, my cable comes in on a high angle from the lift apparatus. It appears that the cable will be in the way of the crank handle turning. Is there some way to deal with this that I cannot see?

Expert Reply:

The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL10950 that you referenced cranks one way to to reel in the cable and the other way to let it out.

To deal with the high angle your cable comes in at you could angle how you mount the # DL10950 so that the handle clears. You might have to come up with a custom mount for the winch so that everything clears.
