Recommended Reversible Hand Winch With 2 Speeds And Hand Brake
Question:
Trailer Winch Suggestion - Problem - I need to safely pull a #1000 tear trailer up and down a medium sloped hill to park it. I have a secure anchor point at the top of the hill I would like to use a permanently mounted non-electric hand winch. Are all of your winches reversible? If not could you suggest one that would work both directions? Sorry to bother, and I appreciate any suggestion you can offer. Thank you,

For your application, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch,TUFFPLATE Finish, Two Speed with Direct Drive - Hand Brake - 2,500 lbs # DL14830. This hand winch when mounted to a secure anchor point will allow you to pull your trailer up the incline and lower it safely. Even though this winch is rated at 2,500 lbs, that rating is based in direct pull weight on the third layer of line on the drum. Capacity is reduced as the line builds up on the drum. Not all winches are reversible meaning the ratchet allows you to let the line out by cranking it out with the ratchet pawl hitting each tooth of the gear, but this one will meet that need.
You will also need cable for this winch. I recommend Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 7/32" Diameter x 50' Long - 2,500 lbs, # DL24045. This is galvanized aircraft cable and includes the safety hook.
