Comparing Blue Ox and Equal-i-zer WDHs for 2018 Airstream International Signature 30RB
Question:
Tow Vehicle - 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500HD Travel Trailer - 2018 Airstream International Signature 30 Advertised Tongue Weight 880 - 900lbs - When loaded add about 200lbs to the tongue for a total of 1100. I currently have an Equalizer Hitch rated for 10,000lb TT and 1000lb hitch. Since I am over the hitch rating by at least 100lbs it has been suggested I move up to the next heavier rating. 1200 or 1400. I only have experience with the Equalizer hitch which works as it should. 35-45 mpg cross winds and gusts move both both vehicles laterally at the same time. NO sway. Semi-trucks are not an issue. I did have professional help installing and adjusting the hitch. The problem with the equalizer is the noise especially when backing up. I have the nylon sleeves which help diminish the noise and do not seem to effect hitch operation. In your opinion would the Blue Ox Sway Pro 1500 be as efficient as theEqualizer? Please explain either way. Does the Equalizer hitch place additional stress on the trailer frame? Would adding the Gen-Y-Torsion W/D Shank provide a smoother ride for both trailer and truck. The trailer really seems to get pounded on the interstate highways even at 55-60 mph. Does the Gen Y really work as advertised? How much does the Gen Y W/D shank weigh? Last Question-Honest. If I add the Gen Y W/D Shank I will need a new shank long enough to open my tailgate open. I currently use a 14inch long Curtinch shank with a 10inch . Does the Gen Y have that size? Thank you for your patience,

The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System and Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System are both excellent options. That said, the Blue Ox system will be less noisy but this is because it has two less points of friction therefore the sway control will be less effective. The Equal-i-zer does have more stress on the frame but not enough to cause an issue.
If you want to go with the Blue Ox system then you will need part # BXW1500 but if Equal-i-zer you need part # EQ37140ET. In order to upgrade a Equal-i-zer 10K to 14K you need both part # EQ90-02-1400 and part # EQ90-01-1499.
In regards to the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shanks like part # GY54FR these do work well but they are not offender with extended shanks.
