Recommended Trunk Mount Bike Rack for 2019 Hyundai Ioniq
Question:
Hello, Hope you are doing well. Im desperately looking for a safe way to transport bikes in my Hyundai IONIQ. Its a leasing car, so I cant fit roof bars, and I dont think it has a connection or something in the back. I saw some models of racks that can be hanged in the back of the car. Some modes discussed in your forum is Yakima Fullback. I struggle to see how it works in a car like the IONIQ without having to hang the rack from the glass, which doesnt sound very safe if Im honest. Of you could please advise and send some pictures / instructions Ill really appreciate it! Thanks for your time. Angel S.

The Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack part # Y02634 is indeed a great option for a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq and a confirmed fit. There will be no permanent modifications needed so you won't break the terms of the lease. In regards to the glass, there is actually a special way that the straps will need to be attached to prevent any issue with this and it's known as anchor mode. This is further explained in the installation instructions. I have attached some tech tips from Yakima below as well but so long as you follow these there will be no issues.
- Outer/lower support frame rests on the lower portion of the license plate or well. When bikes are loaded, re-tension straps to ensure base pads only make contact with the vertical surface of the well or plate.
- Yakima trunk mounted racks weight limit for 2 bikes is 60 lbs. / 3 bikes is 90 lbs.
- For this vehicle; Yakima Halfback, Fullback, and Hangout products require that the upper and lower hooks must be changed and installed in anchor mode. See instructions for anchor mode implementation.
