Is There An Adapter To Use Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller On 1998 Four Winds Hurricane
Question:
Im interested in buying a brake controller. I see the tekonsha p3 is highly recommended and would like to figure out what adapter to buy. I have a 1998 Four Winds Hurricane with the 97 f53 ford chassis. I have located the plug next to the steering wheel and need to find the correct adapter. The plug is gray with a spot for 6 pins but only 5 of the spots are utilized red, green, blue, white, brown. The plug is a male and it has the part number d2sb-14a459-aa. Thanks

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is an okay option for a 1998 Four Winds Hurricane Motorhome. That said, the Ford F-53 Chassis that this motorhome is on is not pre-wired for a brake controller as this was not introduced until much later. Therefore, if you wanted to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 you'd have to splice. Instead, I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which is wireless so no splicing is needed.
I am not sure which plug you have found under the dash but it won't be for a brake controller. Please note, if you don't already have a 7-way at the rear you will also need the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L along with some extra wire part # DW02508-1 (per foot).
