Curt Tri-Flex Brake Controller Remains on Even When Trailer Is Not Attached
Question:
I purchased and installed a C24VV Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller. It appears to be working properly although I havent had a chance to hook up the trailer. The power seems to be on and the unit working even when the trailer is not attached. Is this normal? Is there a way to turn it off when a trailer is not attached?

This is completely normal and doesn't indicate any type of problems with the installation. Because it's connected to a constant 12-volt power source and responds to the brake light switch, the LED on the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV will remain illuminated without a trailer connected and for a short time after the vehicle is shut off.
After 15 or so minutes of inactivity, the brake controller goes into a 'sleep' mode and will reactivate next time the brake pedal is pressed. The LED only draws a few milliamps of power, which would only drain the battery if the vehicle sat unused for months. You could certainly unplug the controller when it's not being used, but it's not really necessary.
