When Should I Replace Leaf Springs On Trailer

Question:

Hey etrailer, Ive just removed the leaf springs of my 3500lb utility trailer to service the Nylon Bushings, however I noticed that the free open arch measurement is about 2.8inch on both springs, instead of the 3inch they came with when they were new. Does this mean that the springs need to be replaced again? Or is it fine to continue running them. They are PR-4 2500 lb/each springs if that makes a difference. They have no cracks or any other visible issues, except the worn out bushings. Thank you in advance!

It is normal for the leaf springs to sag and elongate over time like your PR4 leaf spring has done. Since it's only a 1/5 of an inch it not anything to worry about yet as long as the ride quality is still smooth and the leaf spring is not rusted or cracked.

Please keep in mind leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs to avoid different length springs and trailer tracking issues. I have attached a helpful leaf spring FAQ for your reference.
