7-Way Trailer Adapter for Voltage Issues Between Trailer Mounted Brake Controller and Vehicle
Question:
Good Morning! I have a 19 Pioneer 18BHS trailer that I am towing with a 12 Mercedes GL350. I am using a Prodigy RF brake controller that is intermittently losing connection with the trailer and at the same time - various MB indicators go off - trailer tail light failure and others - when the tail lights are confirmed to be functioning. I got the vehicle 7-pin MB factory install and wiring tested thoroughly at the dealership and no issues there. The MB dealership indicated that sometimes the trailer voltage flowing back can be low or off sometimes due to LED taillights, etc and the MB system will throw a fault/shut the system down in that case. They noted that some of their past customers have found some sort of adaptor between the car 7 and the brake controller 7 that was able to bypass/mitigate this issue. Are you aware of such a part or setup?? If it is helpful, per the Tekonsha help desk, to maintain connection to the vehicle the Tekonsha needs to have a 12 volt supply on the battery charge circuit and a signal from both brake lights circuits. Thank you for any thoughts you might have!

Helpful Expert Reply:
Absolutely. You will want the Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass - 7-Way RV to 7-Way RV - Vehicle End # 20142 which has the load resistors inside to help with exactly what you stated. The 12v power supply will run through without issue to allow your Prodigy RF to function.
