Brake Controller and Wiring Installation on 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk With Factory Tow Package

Question:

I failed to verify that our Cherokee had the plug under the dash before I asked for assistance. I’m having no luck locating the connection for the product I asked about. I think I need a different connection.

The Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 you referenced will require custom wiring harness # 3014-P for your 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk w/factory tow package. It will be plug and play using that harness. I've attached a video of the similar installation to assist.

If you have the factory 7-way it is likely you have the under dash connection for a brake controller. I've attached a photo of the location. The connector is behind the black cover located to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. It will have a cover that will need to be removed. I've attached a photo to assist. If you didn't have the factory 7-way then you would need to add a wire for your brake controller for both power from the battery and for the brake controller output to the 7-way. If you have a 7-way but don't have the connection under your dash then you will need to use # 5506 for your brake controller wiring to a 7-way. If you don't have a 7-way, then use # ETBC7 instead.
