Trailer Hitch Extension and Weight Distribution for 2015 Ford F350 With Truck Bed Camper

Question:

I have a 2015 F350 long box and will be putting an Arctic Fox 990 camper on it. So roughly I will need a 24 extension for my hitch. I have been reading about weight distribution hitches with extensions but do not really understand. I would like to have a weight distribution hitch if possible. The most tongue weight would be 700lb I believe..... thank you

If your 2015 Ford F350 has the 2-1/2 inch hitch, you can use the Reese Titan # RP45292 Hitch Box Extension and Reducer. The extension is designed so that it can either be used in its 34 inch configuration or be cut down to 24 inches in length, which is perfect for your needs. When cut down to 24 inches, the extender has a 6000 lb towing capacity or if used with a weight distribution system, the capacity increases to 8000 lbs which would work well.

If your truck has a 2 inch hitch, replacing it with a 2-1/2 hitch like the # C15810 Class V hitch from Curt and using the extension above would be your most cost effective option.

For a 700 lb maximum tongue weight, I'd recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex, part # RP66560 which is effective on trailers with tongue weights ranging from 600-1200 lbs. The built-in sway control component is very effective on preventing sway caused by turbulence from cross winds or oncoming traffic like what you'd experience with an enclosed trailer or camper with a large cross section for the wind to catch. If you're speaking of a flatbed utility type trailer, having the sway control component is usually less crucial and going with a standard system like the Reese # RP66541 would work great for you.

The trailer ball is sold separately with either system, for a 2 inch ball, use # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

I've linked you to an install video for the hitch I mentioned as well as a help article that explains how weight distribution works.
