How wide is this bracket and how wide a beam will it accommodate?

The bracket system, out of the box, will accommodate trailer frame members up to 5 inches in height and 3-1/2 inches in thickness. For thicker frame members, you'd need to source some longer bolts. The jack has a 2000 lb lift capacity, but keep in mind that the jack won't need to lift the entire trailer weight, just the trailer's tongue weight.

Yes, if you wanted to preserve the life of the Trailer Valet JXS Trailer Jack w/ Footplate #TV34FR you could easily pull the pin out of the jack like you mentioned and pull the jack off of the trailer.
