Troubleshooting BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar Arm Sticking
Question:
My tow bar is a BlackHawk 2 All Terain 10000 lb. One arm is sticking. I have to use the car to move it both inward and outward. If I stand it vertical and soak it with blaster, it will free up enough to lube it with silicone. Then sometimes it will free up so that I can move it by hand, except at the end of the inward stroke. However, after towing it is completely stuck again. The RM910003-85 rebuild kit instructions say DO NOT replace the end bushings on my arms, which have the groove. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you need to give your BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-422 a good cleaning. I reached out to my contact at Roadmaster who said that you want to extend that inner arm out all the way and then apply a liberal amount of dish soap that fights grease (he specifically mentioned Dawn works really great). After that you want to be sure that the silicone spray you are using is a dry silicone spray (which I'm pretty sure Blaster isn't one) to lubricate the arm.
If the problem persists then the next step is to remove the inner arm assembly. This can be done by knocking the arms out the opposite way from the bushing you mentioned. Remove any caps and the black piece off of the end of the inner arm and you should be able to remove it completely for a thorough cleaning of the inner and outer arm assemblies. You might need to use 500 - 1,000 grit sandpaper to clean up where that bushing sits as most likely what is happening at this point is that the bushing is getting pushed together and constricting around the inner arm.
