Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Controller Wiring Adapter Installation for 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5
Question:
I ordered the trailer brake adapter to hook between my Tekonsha Primus IQ and my existing towing package equipped 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7 litre. The Primus end fits now I cant get back out but the truck end does not match up to the adapter located near the emergency brake. The harness that came with the truck in glove box also does not fit The truck harness has 5 wires - 2 large Red and Black and Red wires as well as 3 smaller wires Green, Brown, and green and white The adapter I ordered from you has 5 wires - 4 large Red, White, Blue, and Black and 1 White smaller ground wire. Is there another adapter that goes between these pieces?

The adapter plug that you received, the # 3040-P is the correct adapter. This will plug directly into the back of your Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 and the plug on your vehicle that is located on the driver's side kick panel near the emergency brake- so there isn't going to be another plug you need. I'll also add that the colors of the wires is not going to be significant in this case, since auto manufacturers don't use a standardized color code for vehicle wiring.
The photos you've provided seem to suggest that you've found the incorrect plug- you're looking for one that is completely square, not one with angled edges. You may need to root around back there as it's possible that it's tucked behind some other harnesses or even taped to the sidewall. If your 2007 Toyota Tundra did not come with the tow package and a 7 way connector installed, you won't have the required plug to use the adapter and your Tekonsha Primus IQ will need to be hard-wired to be installed in your truck.
I've linked an installation video of the Tekonsha Primus IQ on a 2007 Toyota Tundra as well as one of our helpful articles on hard-wiring a brake controller that you may find helpful.
