Longer Weight Distribution Shank Recommendation for Clearance to Open Tailgate

Question:

I have a Ram 1500 and I pull a 5800 lbs travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch, the issue is I can not open my tailgate when the truck and trailer are connected do to interference with the trailer’s tongue jack. I would like to swap my 14 inch long weigh distribution hitch shank similar to . RP3214 with a 18 inch long shank EQ90-02-4600 which will give me the clearance I need to open the tailgate while I am connected Would there be issues with changing loads, weights,or forces if I do this swap The load of the trailer will be further back from the wheels by 4 inches

The solution you came up with is the best solution to allow you the needed tailgate clearance. The Equal-i-zer shank part # EQ90-02-4600 will give you the clearance you need and while it is longer the added length would not significantly change the weight on the rear of the vehicle. You'd basically just be gaining the clearance you need without any adverse side effects.
