Does a Sidewinder Increase Sway When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I am purchasing a 19000 Reese Sidewinder to transport my RV. I drive a 2014 Ram Mega Cab 2500 with rambox. My question is will the sidewinder increase the sway when traveling on the highway?

That's a pretty common question but a Sidewinder will definitely not increase sway when you are towing with your 2014 Ram 2500. The reason people (understandably) thank that is because the Sidewinder gives you increased clearance by moving the pivot point back 22 inches. However, the full pin weight is still on the truck so a Sidewinder is not going to be the cause of any added sway.

As an added note, just keep in mind that to find the correct Sidewinder what you will need to know is the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on your fifth wheel and match that with the correct replacement.

For example, the 19,000 lb capacity Sidewinder # RP34FR will replace Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, as well as Fabex PB 600 Series (68200) pin boxes.

You also want to be sure your 5th wheel hitch is compatible with a rotating pin box and that you have the correct wedge for your hitch. I added links to a couple help articles for you to check out a well.
