Can a Reese 20K Sidewinder Pin Box be Used On a KZ RV Durango Model 2500 D325RL Trailer

Question:

Thank you Bob...I will take a few minutes to check the Lippert P/N. One last question, I will be pulling the KZ RV Durango Model 2500 D325RL with a new Chevy Silverado 2500 4X4 w/ DuraMax and standard bed (6-1/2 foot). Based upon your experience do you recommend a fixed Reese 20K Select w/ the Sidewinder or a CURT Q24 w/ R24 slider and the fixed Lippert pin box? Cost aside, I see where both packages have merit.

I spoke with the customer service department at KZ RV, they said that the Durango Model 2500 D325RL is equipped with a Lippert Long pin box from the factory and that this trailer is approved for use with a Reese Sidewinder pin box, like part # RP34FR, as long as the fully loaded weight of the trailer is within the capacity of the Sidewinder pin box . The problem is that they cannot verify which of the 3 long Lippert pin boxes is on your specific trailer without more information.

You should be able to find the make and model number of the pin box on a tag attached at the front of your pin box and select the correct Sidewinder based on that.

I provided a link to an article that details all of the pin boxes that we have replacements for, and also shows how to measure if you cannot find the pin box make and model number on your trailer.

Thanks for getting back to me. In your case, if ride comfort is more important over the long run than upfront cost, I would go with the fixed 19K Select Plus 5th wheel hitch, # RP30081, along with a 5th Airborne Sidewinder, like part # RP61422. This way you get the Sidewinder benefits along with the benefits of the air ride system. The Sidewinder will ensure that you have turning clearance no matter the turning situation, and the air ride pin box will eliminate most of the negative ride qualities that can be encountered when towing a 5th wheel trailer. If economy is a consideration then I would go with the 20K fixed hitch and the standard sidewinder. A Slider unit like the Q24 and R24 Slider, # C16646, is a quality hitch and will get the job done well. This would be the most economical option because you would be able to stay with the standard pin box that comes on your KZ RV Durango Model 2500 D325RL. You will have to remember to get out and activate the slider unit any time you will be encountering a tight turning situation, like in a parking lot or at a campground, and then remember to put the unit back into the towing position before hitting the open road. One downside to all sliding fifth-wheel hitches is added noise in the bed of the truck because of the moving parts in the slider portion of the hitch. I added a couple of links to information about fifth-wheel towing that you may find helpful also.
