How To Carry Motorcycle With 2018 Audi Q3

Question:

This hitch says a tongue weight of 450lbs. When Googling the Audi Q3 tongue weight it says 300lbs. Is the TW rating on this hitch based on what the hitch can handle or what the vehicle can handle? My concern is buying this knowing its tongue rating says 450lbs but then breaking my car because the car cant handle what the hitch is. Or maybe the TW rating from Audi is just for their factory hitch and this one is better. I will be using the hitch to attach a motorcycle carrier to, carrier weighs about 50lbs and motorcycle is 280lbs.

Trailer hitch manufacturers like Draw-Tite part # 75218 for the 2018 Audi Q3 do make their hitches to be as strong as possible and to handle more weight then what the vehicle itself can handle. You will still need to follow the guidelines of the tongue weight of your Audi to avoid damage to the vehicle which is in place for any hitch, aftermarket or factory.

I was not able to pull up the owner's manual of the 2018 Audi Q3 but if your copy says 300 lbs I cannot recommend exceeding that weight. What you can do is use a small trailer to pull the motorcycle as long as you keep the tongue weight under 300 lbs. Here are a list of parts needed to tow the motorcycle.

Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer part # K2MMT5X7
Draw-Tite Hitch part # 75218
4-pole wiring # 119250KIT (if you do not have wiring)
2" ball mount with rise part # C45338
ShockStrap Cam Buckle Tie-Down part # 297-10DR
pin and clip part # C21500
2" Hitch Ball part # A-90
