Where Does Curt Gooseneck Ball for 2020 Silverado 2500 Install Relative to Rear Axle

Question:

The only reason I'm asking and looking more at the gooseneck setup is to utilize my bed without obstructions and to possibly tow a BigTex trailer. After viewing the B & W, I question the pull rod to release the ball. Have you came across any complaints on the rod getting stuck? It also has a different coating and weight rating compared to the Curt.

Expert Reply:

When the Curt Custom Underbed OEM-Style Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # C60642 is installed it will center the gooseneck ball right over the rear axle of the truck.

The Pullrite 3900 is designed to attach directly to a gooseneck hitch ball like this so it would work well. The 2900 requires fifth wheel rails so it would.

You are the first one to recommend a B & W setup. Would it give me the clearance I need even though it's similar to the Curt gooseneck?

Yes, the B and W Companion Slider hitch part # BWRVK3400 would give you the clearance you'd need to make tight turns since the hitch can slide back and will give you the best all around hitch available. To install it you'd just need the underbed rail kit part # BWGNRK1020 which doubles as a gooseneck hitch.

The B and W route will give you the unobstructed truck bed like you are wanting. The release mechanism for the ball is really solid. We don't have issues with it at all. The style we sometimes have issues with is the pop-in style ball though. This does have a 20k trailer weight capacity.
