How do I Power My 12V Wire on my 2008 E 450 Chassis
Question:
I have a 2008 RV on an E450 chassis and need to convert a 4 pin round trailer tow plug to a 7 pin round, but unsure as to where I should grab power for the trailer tow battery charge. The power distribution box fuse diagram shows 2 separate fuses for the trailer tow battery charge relay, #8, and #E, but no fuse specifically for the battery charge to the towed vehicle.

If you have already put your fuses and relay in place you will need to test the main wiring harness at the rear of your coach for power on the different wires using a circuit tester like LCD Digital Circuit Tester part # PTW2992. Do this with all lights off. Once you've confirmed any that have power pull your fuse and relay then test again if one goes cold that's the one you are looking for. If they all remain the same we can go a different route. It isn't uncommon to find that they didn't run the wiring all the way to the back of the coach to save on copper.
Instead we can use a 10 Gauge Primary Wire from your battery connected using one of the ring terminals below depending on your battery post into a 40 Amp Circuit Breaker also using a ring terminals part # 44-5310A on both sides then run the wire back along the frame and connect it to your plug using a heat shrink butt connector this will be the wire in the 1:00 position.
You will want the circuit breaker to be within a foot or so of your battery. Here is the list of parts
1. 10 Gauge Primary Wire - Blue - per Foot part # 10-1-1 (purchase the amount you need to reach front to back on your coach)
2. Pollak Circuit Breaker - Cycling/Automatic Reset - 40 Amp - Straight Mount Bracket part # PK54540 (one)
3. Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 5 part # DW05745-5. (5 pack)
4. Ring Terminal - 12-10 Gauge Wire - 3/8" Ring ID part # DW05705-1 for 5/16" Ring ID part # 44-5356A or for 3/16" Ring ID part # 44-5310A (just need one depending on the size of your battery stud)
