Will Battery Disconnect Unlock Steering Wheel When Flat Towing 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

Question:

I am in the process of buying a 2020 4wd chevy silverado 1500 high country, and I will be towing behind my motor home. For towing purposes, when you turn the battery disconnect will it unlock the steering wheel? The steering wheel cant be locked while towing. Thanks

According to the owner's manual of your 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, Step 11 of the instructions to dinghy tow, it says: "If the vehicle has an ignition key, keep it in the towed vehicle in ACC/ACCESSORY to prevent the steering column from locking. If the vehicle is equipped with Keyless Access, keep the RKE transmitter outside of the vehicle and manually lock the doors. Access the vehicle by using the key in the door lock." I also recommend checking out the owners manual and referring to Step 7, which explains how to put your Silverado in ACC/ACCESSORY ignition position, which is going to unlock the steering wheel.

This is what is going to keep the steering wheel from locking, and the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 will not interfere with this process as you will already have disconnected the battery (used the disconnect) in Step 8. I recommend verifying this in your version of the owner's manual. I have added a link to a video showing this part being installed in a Chevy Silverado 1500 as well as the instruction manual.

The rest of the dinghy towing set up you need for your 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is:

- Base Plate Kit: Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9519342
- Tow Bar: Demco Excali-Bar III Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511013
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- If your motorhome has air brakes: Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243

Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
