Recommended 2-1/2" Trailer Hitch that Fits Right Under Bumper of 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500
Question:
Hi. Im Looking for a hitch just like this #C15312 but with a 2.5inch receiver instead of 2. My Truck. 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6.5foot bed. Duramax Diesel. I like the looks of how this hitch mounts tight close to the bumper like the stock one on my truck. The curt model that has a 2.5inch receiver Im seeing hangs down lower than stock. I believe the stock bumper I have is called the step bumper? I have attached the a picture of my stock bumper and wimpy OEM 7,500 lbs max trailer weight hitch shame on you GM! . I need a hitch with a capacity of at least 14,000 lbs as that is the max gvwr of my dump trailer with a pintle hitch. The pintle hitch I already have has a 2.5inch shank. Also I know I can use the sleeve reducer to 2inch if I ever needed it. I would like to buy a Curt hitch. Quality, reputation, and especially the fact that they are made in the USA. But am also open to other manufacturers as well. Could you please also recommend a quality plug and mount that would fit nice with this new hitch. I would like it to have both the 7 way rv plug and a straight 5 flat plug for my standard trailers.

There are two 2-1/2" trailer hitch receivers available for your 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500, and in terms of the fitment you're looking for the best option is with the Draw-Tite # DT45517. Unlike the Curt # C15703 that you mentioned, the receiver for this unit will sit right up against the bottom of your truck's bumper like you are wanting. I have attached a customer-submitted image below of the hitch installed so you can see exactly how it looks.
Draw-Tite is an extremely reliable brand and are right on par with Curt in terms of the quality and lifespan of their hitches. The only potential downside of this particular hitch is that it has a towing weight capacity of 13,000 pounds, which falls just under the max you were hoping for. This capacity does increase to 17,000 pounds if you use a weight distribution system.
The only 2-1/2" hitch that features the kind of capacity you are wanting is the above-mentioned Curt # C15703, which has an 18,000 pound towing limit with or without a weight distribution system. As you mentioned though, what you gain in capacity you will lose in appearance/ground clearance, as it does hang further down from the rear bumper.
For an excellent connector that will plug into the factory US Car connector socket I recommend the Reese Multi-Plug # 74682. This will provide you with both a 7-Way and 4-Way connector. To add a 5-Way you will just need to use an adapter like the Mighty Cord # A10-7275VP, which will plug into the 7-Way connector. There isn't a custom option available for your Silverado that features a built-in 7-Way and 5-Way.
I have attached a couple short video demonstrations below that you can also check out.
