Offset of Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Hitch AM3200 Explained

Question:

What is this 9 inches of offset I hear so much about, and how do you get it?

The Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Connection Adapter part # AM3200 that you referenced has 9 inches of offset built into it. What that means is that ball that connects to the trailer's pin box is moved back 9 inches from the center line between the two fifth wheel rails. This gives you a bit more clearance between the cab of the truck and the nose of the trailer.

In the attached picture you can see what I mean. The picture shows the offset moved forward but most of the time people use it moved back with short bed trucks for additional clearance.
