It sounds like your trailer was rewired at some point and didn't use the standard colored wires. With the color wires on your connector not matching the standard color code, I recommend testing your trailer for function rather than color of wires. This will make it much easier to pin point each function, and wire the trailer and towing vehicle to match.

Standard color codes are :

Color - circuit - recommended wire gauge:
White - Ground - 10 gauge
Blue - Electric Brake - 12 gauge
Green - Tail, License and Running Lights - 14 gauge
Black - Battery Charge - 10 gauge
Red - Stop and Left-Hand Turn Signal - 14 gauge
Brown - Stop and Right-Hand Turn Signal - 14 gauge
Yellow - Auxiliary Circuit - 14 gauge

You can trace down each wire and see where it terminates on the trailer, then connect it to the correct pin on the 7 way, or use a 12 volt battery and jumper lead to power each wire and see what function comes on. Obviously you will want to inspect the wires and connections to make sure they are in good shape as well.

You can check the towing vehicle with a circuit tester part # PTW2993 while someone else runs through the functions. This way you can make sure the towing vehicle and the trailer are wired the same.

With both the vehicle and trailer wires identified by function you can wire it up like the diagram I attached.
