Does this create a problem since license is mounted on trunk and not on the bumper?

The pictures of the Hopkins Backup Sensor System # HM60100VA we currently have on our site are just sample pictures on different vehicles. It actually doesn't matter if your license plate is on your trunk or on the bumper, this system will work either way!
In fact, I am attaching a sample installation video of this on a 2010 VW Jetta where the license plate is located on the trunk like what you mentioned.
