Can Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier Be Used with Track System Crossbars on Leer Cap

Question:

I have a 2019 Ford F350 with a full sunroof and a Leer cap over the 69 inch bed. My previous truck was a 2017 Ford F150 with a Leer cap over the 6 foot 6 inch bed. On the F150 Leer cap I had a Thule rack system installed and used the 72 inch cross members to support 2 sit on top kayaks weighing a total of about 120 lbs. Loading the kayaks on the F150 was somewhat of a challenge but not impossible. When I traded in the F150 on the F350 I kept the Thule 72 inch cross members and the locking brackets that connected it to the track on the Leer cap. As you may know the F350 is muck higher than the F150. I am now considering purchasing the Thule Hullavator Pro system in order to provide a less strenuous way to roof attach the kayaks. If I purchase just the 2 Thule tracks needed to mount my 72inch cross members on the F350s Leer cap, will the cap be capable of supporting the kayaks and the Thule Hullavator Pro lift assist system ? This would probably be my cheapest option. The other option is purchasing a whole new rack system that clamps to the top of the 4 doors along with the Thule Hullavator Pro. But I have read that mounting a system like that my affect the operation of the sun roof. What would you recommend ?

The best way to use the Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier # TH898 on your new truck is indeed by adding a Thule track system like the 60" # THTB60. This way you can use your existing components without issue to assemble the full roof rack system.

This setup is perfectly compatible with the Hullavator as long as the crossbars extend at least 4" beyond the mounting feet on each side of your camper shell. The only other thing you may want to verify is the weight capacity of the shell itself by contacting Leer regarding your particular model.

The Hullavator will absolutely help with this loading process, especially when it's time to leave the water and your arms are burning from paddling all day. I have a short video demonstration below that you can also check out.
