Availability of Kuat Platform Bike Rack to Allow Rear Door to Swing Open on 2018 Lexus LX 570
Question:
Hi, Theres a clearance of 8 inches from the top of my 2 inch hitch to the bottom of the rear cargo door, that, unfortunately, swings out to the right. I was wondering if the Kuat any of them or any other tray based hitch rack, while swung down, without bikes on them, would allow me to open up my rear hatch, which swings from left to right. The amount of clearance i have to play with is about 8 inches from the hitch itself to the bottom of the cargo door, as it opens up. appreciate your advice. thanks,

I do have a great solution for you, however we don't have a platform-style bike rack (Kuat or otherwise) that can sit low enough to avoid interference with the swinging rear door on your 2018 Lexus LX 570. All of the Kuat platform carriers will sit about 10 to 12 inches above the center of the hitch pin hole, whether down for use or tilted back for rear cargo access.
For your Lexus LX 570 I think your best option will be with the Kuat NV 2.0 Platform Rack # NV22G you were looking at paired with the Kuat Pivot # PVP20B. This will work with the NV 2.0 rack to essentially convert it to a swing-away design, allowing you to push the rack out and to the side of the vehicle to allow clearance with the rear door.
When the Pivot is swung out there will be a distance of 38-9/16" from the hitch receiver to where the bike rack mounts (see attached image). You can take this measurement out from the hitch receiver on your Lexus to ensure this will give you enough space.
This particular unit will swing the rack out towards the passenger side but it's also available with part # PVD20B, which will swing it out to the driver's side.
