Parts Needed To Switch To Electric-Over-Hydraulic Braking with Disc Brakes Already On Trailer
Question:
Hi...I have a 2019 boat trailer with disc brakes. The trailer which when loaded weighs about 11,000 lbs. I pull the trailer with a 2019 RAM 2500 6.4l Hemi. The truck has a EOH controller as standard equipment. My questions are: Would I get much benefit from adding EOH and if so what parts would I require as I already have the in-cab controller?. Thanks for your help.

Turning your existing disc brakes into EOH would allow you to keep the benefits of the added stopping power of disc brakes and add in the quicker reaction time that comes with electric brakes. The good news is that the hardest part of this swap is already done- you've got hydraulic brake lines and disc brakes already on your trailer.
The parts you'll need to complete this are an EOH actuator and a breakaway kit. For the actuator, you were on the right track with the product you were looking at with the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HBA16 . This is a great actuator that will provide 1600psi of pressure to your brakes and easily mounts to most trailer frames. For a breakaway kit, I recommend going with the Pro Series # 50-85-315 which has a push to test feature and easy to read LED lights that indicate the status of the battery.
After installing these two parts, you'll have a fully operational EOH braking system that is compatible with your factory integrated brake controller in your 2019 Ram 2500.
